The Tanto, although not technically qualifying in the category of swords, is the most famous blade in Japan. Traditionally, it was the weapon of Samurai Women since it was small and could easily be hidden in the obi (the belt that ties the kimono), but it was also widely used by Samurai Warriors for close combat. Traditionally the length of a tanto is between 15 cm and 30 cm. Both single-edged and double-edged tanto blades were common.
