Product Details

This katana features a folded pattern steel blade that reveals its layered damascus grain along the entire cutting edge. The repeated folding process creates a visible hamon line with a rhythmic, wave-like texture, and the kissaki tip clearly shows the cross-section of the folded steel layers - a hallmark of traditional multilayer forging. Among our Damascus Steel Katana collection, this piece stands out for its pronounced grain definition.

The 11-inch tsuka is built on a hardwood core wrapped in white PU samegawa, then bound tightly with black cotton ito cord in a traditional diamond pattern. Copper-toned fuchi and kashira cap both ends of the handle, matching the warm metallic accent running throughout the fittings.

At the guard position sits a sculptural copper-toned tsuba featuring a three-dimensional dragon motif surrounded by scrolling clouds. Gold-finished accents on the habaki and seppa ring provide contrast against the darker patina of the dragon relief, giving the crossguard genuine visual weight.

The gray hardwood saya is the most striking visual element of this katana. Its entire surface is hand-painted with a dramatic scene of waves, clouds, and mythological figures in monochromatic gray and black tones, sealed under natural lacquer for protection. A dark brown braided sageo cord wraps the kurikata, adding a textured accent to the painted surface. This saya style is characteristic of our Gray Pattern Steel Japanese Samurai Swords series.

Full tang construction runs through the entire handle, and the katana measures 40.5 inches in overall length with a blade width of 1.26 inches and a weight of 2.88 lbs. Every fitting is assembled by hand, from the mekugi pins securing the tang to the lacquer finish on the saya. Please note that no sword stand or holder is included.

  • Forged from folded pattern steel (damascus), the blade displays a distinctive layered hamon line visible along the full edge, with a hand-finished tip showcasing the folded grain structure.
  • The tsuba features a detailed dragon motif cast in copper-toned alloy with gold accents, adding sculptural depth and a bold focal point to the katana's profile.
  • Gray hardwood saya is hand-painted with an intricate wave-and-dragon scene, finished in natural lacquer, and secured with a dark brown braided sageo cord.
  • Black cotton ito wrapping over white PU samegawa on an 11-inch hardwood tsuka provides a firm traditional grip, complemented by copper-toned fuchi and kashira fittings.
  • Overall length of 40.5 inches with a blade width of 1.26 inches and a total weight of 2.88 lbs - full tang construction secured through the handle with mekugi pins.

Frequently Asked Questions

What steel is used and how is the hamon created?
The blade is forged from folded pattern steel (damascus), and the hamon line is a natural result of the multilayer folding process. The layered grain is visible along the cutting edge and especially at the kissaki tip, where the cross-section of the folded steel layers is clearly exposed.
What is the dragon tsuba made of?
The tsuba is cast from copper-toned alloy and features a high-relief three-dimensional dragon motif surrounded by scrolling clouds. Gold-finished accents on the habaki and seppa ring complement the darker patina of the dragon relief, creating a rich contrast.
How is the gray saya decorated?
The hardwood saya is entirely hand-painted with a detailed monochromatic scene of waves, clouds, and mythological figures in gray and black tones. The artwork is sealed under natural lacquer for durability, and a dark brown braided sageo cord wraps the kurikata for a textured accent.
