How should I store and maintain a Sekiro katana display piece?

 Updated Feb 2026

Carbon steel blades — which cover the majority of pieces in this collection — require light maintenance to prevent surface oxidation. Apply a thin coat of food-grade or blade-specific mineral oil every two to three months using a soft cotton cloth, working from the base of the blade toward the tip. Store the sword horizontally on a display stand or inside its hardwood saya in an environment with stable humidity between 40 and 55 percent. Avoid storing the blade inside the saya long-term without periodic airing, as trapped moisture accelerates rust formation at the habaki. Keep the piece away from direct sunlight, which can gradually degrade the lacquered saya finish and handle cord over time.
