How should I maintain a wooden sword stand over time?
Updated Mar 2026
Natural wood stands benefit from the same basic care principles as wooden furniture. Keep the stand away from direct sunlight and heating vents, both of which accelerate surface fading and can cause minor warping in thinner decorative elements over time. Every six to twelve months, apply a small amount of furniture wax or natural wood conditioner with a soft cloth to maintain the finish and prevent the wood from drying out. Avoid silicone-based sprays, which can leave a residue that interferes with future refinishing. For carved surfaces, use a soft-bristle brush to remove dust from the recessed areas before applying conditioner. Keeping humidity in the 45-55% range is ideal for both the stand and any saya resting on it.
