How should I store and maintain a brown lacquered armor set?
Updated Feb 2026
Brown lacquered armor requires stable environmental conditions to preserve its finish over time. Store or display the set away from direct sunlight, which gradually fades warm lacquer tones and causes brittleness in the underlying material. Use a dedicated yoroi-kake armor stand to distribute weight properly—improvised mounting places uneven stress on the odoshi lacing. Dust the surface periodically with a soft natural-hair brush rather than cloth, which can scratch the lacquer. In humid climates, place silica gel packets near the display area to reduce moisture exposure on iron or steel plate components. Inspect lacing cords annually for fraying, as early intervention is far easier than full re-lacing.
