Product Details

The blade is forged from 608-layer Damascus steel using traditional folding methods that produce the signature wavy grain pattern running the full length of the nagasa. A natural hamon traces the edge, catching light differently at every angle - a detail that distinguishes hand-forged construction from machine-ground alternatives. The chrome-finished surface reveals the folded steel layers clearly, giving collectors a direct view of the smithing process embedded in the steel itself.

The tsuka is built in classic koshirae style: ray skin samegawa covers the wooden core, and black cotton ito is wrapped tightly in a traditional diamond pattern over it. The silver kashira caps the pommel end cleanly, while the overall handle proportions balance well against the long nagasa. The bronze dragon tsuba is one of the most visually distinct fittings on this piece. Cast with raised scrollwork and curved negative space, it carries an aged copper finish that adds depth against the black handle. The dragon motif is rendered in detail on both faces, and the overall shape follows a traditional round profile with organic cutouts that keep the guard from feeling heavy.

The black lacquered hardwood saya is finished with a gold dragon print positioned mid-scabbard - a design choice that gives the sheathed sword a completely different visual identity from the bare blade. The black sageo cord completes the koshirae set, looping cleanly at the kurigata. Browse our Black Damascus Samurai Sword collection for more pieces in this colorway.

Beautiful! My only complaint would be lack of hooks/brackets on saya to attach to belt or hakima. Overall very pleased!
