Product Details
This Japanese tanto features a 12.5-inch folded Damascus steel blade with a visible layered pattern running along the full length. The steel is hardened to 62 HRC and carries a hand-finished edge, with the characteristic wavy grain of pattern-welded steel catching light across the polished surface. A brass habaki seats the blade firmly into the tsuka assembly.
The 6.3-inch tsuka is wrapped in black cotton ito cord over red samegawa, creating a striking two-tone grip. Beneath the wrap sits a full tang construction that runs the entire length of the handle, secured with traditional mekugi pins. The red samegawa peeks through the black cord diamonds, echoing the color theme carried through the rest of the fittings.
An ornate alloy tsuba in an antique bronze finish anchors the transition between blade and handle. The guard features a deeply sculpted scrollwork design with flowing organic forms, paired with a smooth brass seppa that frames the tsuba cleanly on both sides.
The hardwood saya is finished in glossy black piano lacquer and decorated with hand-painted cherry blossoms in white, pink, yellow, and green - a vivid floral composition that wraps from the koiguchi down toward the kojiri. The upper portion of the saya is covered in red leather with a cross-laced pattern, adding texture and visual weight to the scabbard. This Damascus Tanto pairs traditional Japanese sword craft with bold decorative choices.
At 20.5 inches overall and 1.5 lbs, this tanto sits comfortably in the short sword category. The combination of Damascus steel forging, painted lacquer saya, and red leather detailing makes it a distinctive addition to any Pattern Steel Hamidashi or tanto collection. Please note the display stand is not included.
