Damascus Steel Katana with Red Tsuka, Black Lacquer Saya in Purple Sageo & Dragon Tsuba

This katana is built around a hand-forged Damascus steel blade that runs the full 41-inch overall length at 3 lbs. The layered steel produces flowing wave patterns unique to each piece, and the visible hamon line traces the heat treatment along the edge - giving the blade both visual depth and a hand-finished profile. The full-tang construction anchors the blade firmly through the handle assembly.

The tsuka is wrapped in red cotton ito over PU black samegawa, following a traditional diamond-spacing pattern that leaves the dark underlayer visible between each crossing. A knot paper insert is fitted beneath the wrap to maintain tension and keep the ito from shifting. The 10mm cord provides grip cushion while the samegawa layer adds surface texture and structure. The tsuba is cast in a brown iron dragon motif with openwork relief carving - the dragon's form wraps the circular guard with defined scale and claw detail. A brass-tone seppa seats between tsuba and blade collar, balancing the fit and adding a warm accent between the dark blade and brown guard.

The black hardwood saya is coated in premium natural lacquer, producing a high-gloss finish that protects the wood and reflects light cleanly against the matte blade. A purple sageo cord is knotted at the kurikata in a braided traditional style, adding a contrasting color accent between the black saya and red tsuka. The overall koshirae palette - red, black, purple, and brown - creates a layered, intentional aesthetic.
