How should I maintain a marble katana saya to prevent damage?

 Updated Feb 2026

The lacquered marble finish is durable but benefits from simple preventive care. Store the sword away from direct sunlight, as prolonged UV exposure can gradually fade pigment layers over time. Wipe the saya periodically with a soft, dry microfiber cloth to remove dust and fingerprint oils. Avoid placing the scabbard on rough surfaces that could scratch the topcoat. If you live in a particularly humid climate, consider using a silica gel packet in your display case to moderate moisture levels. For the blade itself, apply a thin film of choji oil every few weeks using the included cleaning kit, which prevents surface oxidation — especially important for high-carbon steels like T10 and 1095 that are more reactive than stainless alloys.
