How does a folded T10 blade differ from a standard T10 blade?
Updated Mar 2026
A standard T10 blade is forged from a single billet of steel, shaped, and clay tempered. A folded T10 blade undergoes additional forge-welding cycles in which the steel is repeatedly folded back on itself - typically 8 to 13 times - before final shaping. This process refines the grain structure, distributes carbon more evenly throughout the billet, and creates the subtle surface grain pattern known as jihada, which becomes visible after polishing. For display collectors, folded blades carry greater visual complexity and represent a more labor-intensive production process. The hamon on a folded blade also tends to interact with the jihada in visually distinctive ways that experienced collectors find appealing.
