How should I care for and display a red katana?

 Updated Feb 2026

Red katanas display best on a horizontal wall-mounted sword rack or a traditional wooden katana stand (kake) with the edge facing upward. Keep the sword away from direct sunlight to preserve the red finish over time. For blade maintenance, a light application of sword oil (choji oil or mineral oil) on the steel surface every few months prevents oxidation. Handle the blade with clean, dry hands or cotton gloves to avoid fingerprint marks on the finish. The red lacquered scabbard can be wiped with a soft dry cloth to maintain its luster. All katanas in this collection ship with protective packaging designed for safe display setup.
