How do I install a katana wall mount safely and securely?

 Updated Feb 2026

Secure katana wall mount installation requires locating wall studs or using appropriate anchors for your wall type. For wooden stud walls: locate studs using a stud finder and drive mounting screws directly into studs for maximum holding strength. For drywall without convenient stud placement: use toggle bolt anchors rated for the weight of the mount plus the swords it will hold - a single katana weighs approximately 1-1.5 kg, so a three-tier mount with three swords requires anchors rated for at least 5-6 kg for adequate safety margin. Mount the bracket level using a spirit level before finalizing screw positions. After installation, test the mount by applying downward pressure to each bracket arm before hanging any swords. The mount should have zero movement under pressure before swords are hung.
