Product Details

The 29-inch 1045 carbon steel nagasa is the defining element of this katana, heat-treated to 58 HRC and finished in a warm brown tone that sets off the hand-finished hamon running the full length of the blade. The wave-pattern temper line marks the boundary between the hardened edge zone and the more flexible spine - a detail that gives the blade genuine visual depth without any artificial engraving.

The tsuka measures 10.25 inches and is constructed over a hardwood core, then wrapped in black cord over white polyurethane leather samegawa laid in the traditional diamond-gap pattern. Gold-tone menuki ornaments are positioned beneath the wrap at the standard grip points, adding a restrained metallic accent that complements the overall color palette.

The silver alloy tsuba carries an engraved chrysanthemum motif across its face - one of the most enduring symbols in Japanese aesthetic tradition. The antiqued brass habaki collar seats the blade cleanly into the guard, tying the warm metal tones of the nagasa to the cooler silver of the tsuba. This pairing of metals gives the fittings section a layered, intentional look rather than a uniform finish. Collectors interested in this style of koshirae fittings can explore more in our Black Carbon Steel Sword collection.

The saya is built from hardwood finished in a matte black lacquer that absorbs light rather than reflecting it - a clean, understated complement to the brown blade. At 29.5 inches it fully sheathes the nagasa with a secure fit. A teal braided sageo is tied at the kurigata in a traditional knot, providing a deliberate color contrast against the black saya. The teal and white braid pattern echoes the white samegawa beneath the tsuka wrap, tying the full piece together visually. For more options in this saya style, see our Black Leather Saya Japanese Samurai Swords collection.

Assembled overall length is 41 inches and total weight is 4.4 lbs, producing a balance point that sits naturally forward of the tsuba. The full-tang construction runs the steel continuously from tip through handle, ensuring the blade and handle move as a single unit. Koshirae style fittings throughout - tsuba, habaki, menuki, and sageo - make this a complete, presentation-ready piece suited to wall mounting, collection display, or iaido-style drawing practice.

The product overall was awesome, the look and feel of it is great. My only problem is the hand guard at the bottom of the blade is a little loose so it can wiggle.. (that’s why I gave only 4 stars.) but, for a decorative piece that is purely just going to sit on a stand, this was an overall great purchase.
