Product Details

This Damascus steel katana features a 28.5-inch folded blade with visible layered patterning running from spine to edge. The clay-tempered process produces a natural hamon line along the cutting edge, while the steel reaches 60 HRC hardness. The matte finish on the Damascus surface reveals flowing grain patterns that are unique to each forged piece, making this a standout among Damascus Steel Japanese Samurai Swords.

The 10.25-inch tsuka is built on a full tang core and wrapped with real white samegawa for texture and grip stability. Black cord ito is woven over the ray skin in a traditional diamond pattern, giving the handle both visual contrast and a secure hold. Dual brass menuki sit beneath the wrap, completing the handle assembly.

At the junction of blade and handle sits a gold-tone alloy tsuba in an oval profile. The guard features a deeply sculpted wave and scrollwork motif on both faces, with an open lattice design on the inner ring. The gold finish contrasts sharply against the black cord and white samegawa, creating a focal point that ties the entire piece together.

The 28.5-inch hardwood saya is finished in glossy black lacquer along the upper and lower sections, while the center showcases an elaborate red and black dragon embossed relief. The raised dragon scales and swirling cloud forms are carved in deep relief with red lacquer accents against a black base, giving the scabbard a dramatic three-dimensional quality. A black sageo cord is tied at the kurikata for traditional carry display. This embossed saya design sets it apart from standard Black Damascus Katana offerings.

The katana measures 40.5 inches overall and weighs 4.5 lbs, making it a substantial display piece with authentic proportions. Every component - from the folded steel blade to the dragon-carved scabbard - is assembled by hand, resulting in a collectible that reflects traditional Japanese sword-making techniques adapted for the modern collector.

What is the tsuba design and material on this katana?

Its a good sword for 380 bucks the silk wrap is on there tight and the blade is sharp cuts through paper like nothing. The dragon isn’t red its orange but it still looks good. I just messed up and bought the sword before a big sale of 40% off, I could’ve got the sword for a lot cheaper and Instead of getting the sword for 233 I bought it for 360 oof
