Product Details

This black katana starts with a 29-inch T10 carbon steel blade that has been folded to produce visible Damascus-style layered grain across the surface. The clay tempering process creates a differential hardness - a harder cutting edge rated at 58 HRC and a more flexible spine - while leaving a real hamon line that traces the length of the blade. Hand polishing brings out both the temper line and the folded texture, giving the steel a dark, chrome-toned finish that suits the sword's all-black theme.;

The tsuka measures 10.25 inches and is built on a full tang core wrapped first in black polyurethane leather samegawa, then finished with black cotton cord in a traditional crosshatch pattern. Two menuki sit beneath the wrap, and the fit feels balanced against the longer blade. This handle length provides generous room for a two-handed grip.

A gold-tone alloy tsuba serves as the visual centerpiece, featuring an openwork dragon motif surrounded by sculptural cloud forms. The contrast between the bright brass-colored habaki collar and the dark fittings draws the eye, and the guard's thickness provides a solid transition between handle and blade. Collectors who appreciate themed fittings will find this dragon design among the more detailed options in our T10 Carbon Steel Katana collection.

The matte black hardwood saya runs 29.5 inches and has a subtle speckled texture across its surface. A black sageo cord is tied at the kurikata in a decorative knot, keeping the aesthetic consistent from tip to pommel. The saya mouth fits snugly against the habaki, holding the blade securely when sheathed.

Overall, this katana measures 41 inches in length and weighs approximately 3 pounds unsheathed. The combination of folded T10 steel, clay tempering with real hamon, and an all-black presentation with gold dragon accents makes it a distinctive addition to any display. Frequently Asked Questions

What steel and hardness does this black katana have?
The blade is forged from T10 carbon steel that has been folded to create Damascus-style layered grain, then clay tempered to achieve 58 HRC at the cutting edge. This process produces a real hamon line visible along the 29-inch blade.
Is the hamon on this katana real or etched?
The hamon is real, formed through the clay tempering process where differential heating and cooling creates a harder edge and softer spine. The resulting temper line is a natural byproduct of this method, not an acid etch or surface treatment.
What is the tsuba design and saya finish on this sword?
The tsuba is a gold-tone alloy guard with an openwork dragon motif surrounded by sculptural cloud forms, paired with a brass-colored habaki collar. The saya is a 29.5-inch matte black hardwood scabbard with a subtle speckled texture and matching black sageo cord.

It's a great sword. Gaurd is slightly wobbly and the inside of the sheath could have been painted black, but in general...... well done!

The katana was awesome and looks like a Warrior would fight!

Apr 05, 2021 17:26

The quality was good the only problem I had was the blade... it wasn’t as “battle ready as said. A butter knife was sharper than my sword. If you’re expecting something sharp buy a wetstone. True katana I hope you sharpen your blades more 😧

Wonderful sword. It didn’t have any scratches, bends, or dinks. The blade was straight and came with oil on it as to prevent rust I assume. However, after sliding the Katana in and out of the scabbard it has now become loose and will slide out with ease. Another thing on the katana handle there are risible wooden pegs which are just an eyesore. These are just replica katanas so I do recommend getting them. Great product.
