Manganese Steel Katana with Blue Scroll Tsuba in Black Dragon-Embossed Leather Saya

The blade is forged from manganese steel and hand-finished to reveal a clearly defined hamon line running along the edge. The polished flat catches light with a chrome-bright surface, while the edge is refined to a clean, even bevel. At 40 inches overall, the blade carries enough length and weight - 4 lb - to feel substantial in hand, whether mounted on a wall display or examined up close by a collector.

The tsuka is built on a full-tang foundation, with the steel extending the full length of the handle for structural continuity. Black ray-skin (same) covers the core, and black cord ito is wrapped tightly over it in the traditional diamond pattern, creating firm, even grip points across the entire handle length.

The tsuba is one of the most visually distinctive elements of this piece. Cast in a deep blue with an ornate swirling scroll motif - visible in full detail in the close-up image - it creates a deliberate color break between the black handle and the bright blade. A gold-tone habaki seats cleanly below it, adding a warm metallic accent at the transition point.

The saya is covered in black leather stamped with a continuous dragon relief pattern that runs the full length of the scabbard. The texture catches directional light and gives the surface a dimensional, almost carved appearance. A black-and-white braided sageo cord is knotted at the koiguchi, completing the two-tone contrast that runs through the entire piece.
