Product Details

The blade is forged from 1060 carbon steel, ground to a bright chrome finish, and hand-finished along the cutting edge. A natural hamon line traces the length of the blade, evidence of the differential hardening process applied during heat treatment. The full-tang construction extends through the entire handle, giving the piece solid structural integrity from tip to pommel. Explore more options in our 1060 Steel Katana collection.

The tsuka is wrapped in dark navy ito in a classic diamond-pattern over white same (rayskin). Gold-tone menuki ornaments are positioned beneath the wrap, their outlines visible through each open diamond for a layered navy-and-ivory visual effect. The fuchi and kashira fittings carry the same dark tone as the tsuba, keeping the handle end visually tight and cohesive.

The black alloy tsuba features an openwork geometric design - five interlocking circular voids arranged in a symmetrical ring pattern. The cutout silhouette reads as bold and architectural, a deliberate contrast to the more ornate dragon motif on the saya below. A gold-tone habaki collar sits at the blade base, separating the polished steel from the dark metal fittings.

The hardwood saya is lacquered white and hand-painted with detailed blue dragon imagery across its full length, evoking the aesthetic of traditional blue-and-white porcelain. The contrast between the crisp white ground and the deep cobalt-blue artwork is the defining visual statement of this koshirae. A dark blue sageo cord ties at the kurikata, matching the tsuka wrap and completing the unified navy-and-white color scheme throughout.

Overall length is 41 in. and shipping weight is 3 lb. Each piece is individually assembled, so minor variations in wrap tension and lacquer patterning are inherent to hand-production. Sword stand not included. Browse the full range in our Blue Sageo Japanese Samurai Swords collection.

Frequently Asked Questions

What steel and hardness does this katana blade use?
The blade is forged from 1060 carbon steel and heat-treated to produce a visible hamon line. The differential hardening yields a harder edge with a tougher spine, standard for this steel grade in hand-finished katana construction.
What makes the saya design on this katana distinctive?
The hardwood saya is lacquered white and hand-painted with blue dragon artwork along its full length, referencing a blue-and-white porcelain aesthetic. The dark blue sageo ties into the navy tsuka wrap for a unified, intentional color story across the entire koshirae.
What style and color is the tsuba on this piece?
The tsuba is a black alloy openwork design with five interlocking circular voids in a geometric ring pattern. It pairs with a gold-tone habaki collar at the blade base and the dark navy ito wrap, keeping the fitting palette consistent throughout.

Arrived MUCH sooner than expected. Now, there really isn't an edge on this is one of my issues with it. The only other issue is that the sheath seems to be pretty cheap. Overall I am Impressed with the sword though, and would even order Again from True Katana
