Product Details

The blade is the defining feature here - 27.5 inches of 1095 carbon steel finished with a clay-tempering process that produces a genuine hamon line visible along the length of the nagasa. The differential heat treatment leaves the edge hardened to 60 HRC while keeping the spine more flexible, a balance that also creates the soft blue-grey iridescence visible across the flat of the blade in changing light.

The handle system pairs a 10.2-inch hardwood core with an underlayer of genuine white rayskin - real samegawa rather than synthetic - before the black cord wrap is applied in tight, evenly spaced coils. The rayskin nodes press through slightly at the grip points, giving the hand something to read even through the wrap. A decorative finial at the kashira carries the same dark alloy tone as the tsuba hardware.

The tsuba is the most visually complex element: a cast alloy guard shaped into a full demon-mask relief, wide cheekbones and deep-set eye sockets rendered in matte black. Flanking scrollwork fills the guard's wings, and a matching habaki collar in the same dark metal ties the blade-to-handle transition together cleanly.

The saya is hardwood lacquered in matte black with an all-over diamond-point texture pressed into the surface - a subtle but striking departure from smooth lacquer finishes. At 30.3 inches it fits the straight chokuto profile precisely, and the textured grip across the scabbard body echoes the cord wrap on the handle visually.

As a straight-bladed ninjato-style chokuto, this piece occupies a distinct space in a Japanese sword collection - the geometry reads differently on a wall mount or display stand than a curved katana, and the unified black hardware with blue-toned blade makes it one of the more visually cohesive pieces in this format. Total assembled length is 41.5 inches at 3 lbs.

  • 1095 carbon steel blade clay-tempered to 60 HRC hardness, hand-finished to a visible hamon line along the 27.5-inch nagasa for a hardened edge with a resilient spine.
  • Full-tang construction with a 10.2-inch tsuka wrapped in genuine white rayskin under black cord - the real samegawa base adds grip texture and structural integrity beneath the wrap.
  • Sculptural alloy tsuba featuring a raised demon-mask motif in matte black with intricate scrollwork - a dramatic focal point that ties together the all-black hardware aesthetic.
  • Black textured hardwood saya with a diamond-pattern surface finish runs 30.3 inches, housing the blade securely while delivering a bold monochromatic presentation.
  • Total length 41.5 inches, weight 3 lbs - a proportioned straight-blade ninjato profile ideal for wall display or collection alongside traditional curved katana.

Well made, nice weight, and a beautiful blade. r
r
The only negative is the dragon head of the pommel is pretty sharp so it make the sword uncomfortable to wield. However, I was able to rotate it 180 degrees which eliminated the problem. r
r
This showed another small issue with the mounting of the pommel since it screws on, but locktite will address that. The pommel should really be redesigned to smooth it out.r
r
That all said, I am happy with my purchase and would buy again.
