Clay Tempered Damascus Katana with Real Hamon - Pattern Steel, Black Lacquer Saya, Full Tang

This Japanese katana is built around a pattern steel blade - forged through repeated folding that compresses and aligns the metal grain into visible layers across the surface. The clay tempering process adds a genuine hamon line along the edge, the hallmark boundary between harder cutting steel and a more flexible spine.

The blade has been heat treated and oil quenched before receiving a traditional hand polish that brings the hamon pattern to the surface. Each wave and curve in the temper line is unique to this individual piece, a direct result of how the clay was applied and how the steel responded during quenching.

A premium black natural lacquer saya built over a hardwood core houses the blade. The lacquer finish is smooth and matte, designed to complement the dark cord wrap and steel fittings while protecting the blade from moisture and contact. The overall aesthetic is deliberately understated - all black with controlled accents at the guard.

The tsuba provides the sole color break: an alloy guard featuring gold gilding and floral motifs in warm copper tones. It adds ornamental interest without disrupting the katana's clean lines. The handle follows traditional form - black cotton cord in tight rows over genuine samegawa, with full tang steel running the entire length for structural integrity.
