Aikuchi Tanto in Chromium Steel with Cherry Blossom Engraved Blade - Orange-Black Tsuka, Black Lacquer Saya

The blade is forged from chromium steel and finished to a bright chrome polish, with a hand-etched cherry blossom motif decorating the flat near the base. The tanto geometry - a straight-spined, single-bevel profile - is crisp and true to form, and the precision-finished edge runs cleanly to a fine point. The tsuka is built on a full-tang core, wrapped in black PU ray-skin (same) as the foundation, then bound in orange cotton cord in a traditional diagonal hishi-gumi pattern. Black diamond-shaped gaps in the wrap reveal the same beneath, creating a strong orange-and-black graphic that defines the piece visually. A small gold-tone alloy menuki is set into the wrap on the face side.

In keeping with the aikuchi style, there is no tsuba on this mount. Instead, a polished gold alloy habaki seats flush against the tsuka collar, and a matching gold fuchi rings the base of the handle. The absence of a guard gives the koshirae a clean, uninterrupted line from pommel to blade - the defining characteristic of the aikuchi form. The saya is lacquered hardwood in a deep, glossy black finish. The upper section of the saya is wrapped in a tight woven black cord, adding grip texture and visual weight at the mouth end.
