Product Details

The blade of this tanto is forged from manganese steel and heat-treated to 62 HRC, delivering a dense, hard edge with lasting stability along the 28.74-inch nagasa. A real hamon runs the length of the chrome-finished blade, the visible result of differential hardening that creates a flowing contrast between the hardened edge and the softer spine. The hand-finished surface highlights the natural grain of the steel, making each piece distinct. For collectors drawn to Granite T10 Carbon Steel Tanto styles, this piece sits within that same tradition of high-carbon craftsmanship.

The tsuka measures 10.62 inches and is built on a full tang foundation - the blade steel extends the full length of the handle, ensuring structural unity throughout. Authentic black rayskin samegawa wraps the core, its naturally pebbly surface creating friction beneath the fingers before the black cord ito is applied in a traditional diamond pattern over the top. The result is a grip that holds its form and looks precisely correct against the rest of the koshirae assembly.

The round alloy tsuba is finished in a warm gold tone with a plain, clean profile. Its circular form and lightly engraved rim sit flush between blade and handle, providing a proportional visual break without competing with the darker elements of the sword. The fuchi and kashira follow the same gold-tone finish, maintaining continuity across all fittings.

The saya is one of the most distinctive features of this tanto. Covered in authentic rayskin, its matte black surface is defined by a dense pattern of natural speckles - white and cream dots distributed evenly across a dark ground. At 29.92 inches, the scabbard fits the blade with a secure snap. Black sageo cord wraps and ties at the kurigata, completing the monochromatic exterior with a texture contrast that suits the overall design. Those interested in the full range of rayskin saya options can explore the Gray Rayskin Saya Tanto collection for related styles.

Overall dimensions measure 40.55 inches in total length with a blade width of 1.259 inches and spine thickness of 0.275 inches. This tanto is a complete koshirae-mounted piece built around a sharpened, hamon-bearing blade - a considered addition to any Japanese sword collection.

The communication could be better after the order is placed. The product was as advertised and is a very nice sword. Looking forward to practicing with it. Luckily the delivery occurred just before the tariff shipping fiasco that is currently going on.
