What display hardware is appropriate for a long blade katana?
Updated Feb 2026
Long blade katana require display hardware chosen specifically for their extended blade length and greater weight compared to standard katana. For horizontal wall display, two-bracket support is recommended rather than a single central bracket: position one bracket at approximately one-quarter of the blade length from the handle and a second at approximately three-quarters of the blade length to distribute the weight along the blade without concentrating it at a single point. Both brackets should be rated for the weight of a large-format blade - typically 4 to 6 pounds for a heavy odachi-scale piece - and should be anchored into wall studs rather than into drywall alone. For the longest pieces in this collection, a dedicated floor display stand positioned diagonally is the most practical solution, as it accommodates the blade's full length within normal ceiling heights without wall hardware limitations. Peg spacing on wall brackets should be adjusted to match the specific blade's length rather than using a fixed configuration that may not provide adequate tip support for extended blades.
