What construction grades are used in black ninjato?
Updated Feb 2026
Black ninjato in this collection are built from 1045 carbon steel and Manganese Steel - both high-carbon grades appropriate to the ninjato's straight-blade format. 1045 carbon steel is the most widely used grade in the black ninjato collection, providing reliable full-tang construction with consistent blade quality across the range of black configurations. The 1045 grade is well suited to the bamboo-theme and standard black ninjato formats where the color aesthetic is the primary collecting focus and the steel provides dependable construction quality. Manganese Steel is used in black ninjato pieces where exceptional surface hardness is the priority - Manganese Steel's hardness properties are well matched to the clean geometric profiles and the bold color treatments that define the black ninjato aesthetic. All pieces feature full-tang construction with the blade steel running from kissaki tip through the complete handle, secured by a mekugi retention pin. Handle and fitting assemblies are assembled to the same standard as conventional Japanese sword collectibles, with scabbards included with each piece.
