Product Details

The blade on this katana is forged from T10 carbon steel and hand-finished with a visible hamon running along the edge. The hammered surface texture catches light at varying angles, giving the chrome-polished blade a dynamic, layered appearance that sets it apart from machine-ground alternatives. At 41 inches overall, the geometry balances reach and control in a way that reflects traditional Japanese sword proportions. The tsuka is wrapped in brown cotton cord over white rayskin (samegawa) in a traditional diamond-pattern braid. The wrap is firm and even, with the underlying samegawa texture providing grip reinforcement under the cord. Full-tang construction runs the blade steel through the handle core, secured by a single mekugi peg for stability. Fuchi and kashira fittings are finished in coordinating tones that connect the handle to the guard without visual interruption.

The tsuba is the standout fitting on this piece - a round, openwork alloy guard cast in gold and silver tones, featuring a samurai figure rendered in relief on the face. The pierced design reduces visual weight while the raised detail gives it depth. At the transition between tsuba and tsuka, the gold habaki provides a clean, tight fit against the blade.

The saya is shaped from hardwood and finished in black lacquer with visible amber and red flecks distributed across the surface, giving it a textured, multi-tone character rather than a flat solid color. A brown sageo cord is attached at the kurigata and tied in a layered knot, with a small amber bead at the junction adding a subtle accent. The Brown Scabbard Japanese Samurai Swords collection includes additional options in this color family if you are comparing saya finishes.

Total weight is 4 lbs with a 41-inch overall length. Packaged in a 43 x 4 x 4 inch box at 5 lbs shipping weight. Koshirae-style fittings are complete - tsuba, fuchi, kashira, menuki, sageo, and sageo bead are all included. Sword stand is not included.

The design and build of the katana is 10/10 and it’s super solid. The only reason I don’t give it a 4 or a 5 is because the blade isn’t as sharp as it should be.It also still has a burr.but other that it’s nice.
