Product Details
The blade is forged from damascus steel, producing a layered fold pattern that runs the full length of the chrome-finished nagasa (28.3 in). A genuine hamon line traces the edge, and a hand-engraved dragon motif with Japanese characters decorates the flat - details that set this piece apart from mass-produced reproductions. The full tang construction runs the entire length of the handle for structural integrity.
The tsuka (handle, 10.2 in) is wrapped in black cotton ito over a red ray-skin (samegawa) base. The diamond-pattern wrap leaves the red samegawa visible at regular intervals, creating the bold red-black contrast visible throughout the piece. The overall handle geometry follows traditional koshirae proportions.
The gold-tone tsuba is iron with a hand-carved dragon-and-cloud relief design. The warm gold color works directly against the dark handle wrapping and chrome blade, and the openwork detailing on the guard shows a level of carving depth uncommon at this price point. A matching gold-tone habaki collar seats the blade securely in the saya.
The Handwood Scabbard Katana is made from hardwood and finished with a high-gloss natural lacquer coat. A dragon-and-cloud engraving runs along one side of the scabbard, continuing the theme from tsuba to saya. The black sageo cord - paired with red accent cord at the kurigata - ties the overall color palette together.
