The full tang construction runs the entire length of the handle for structural integrity.

The tsuka (handle, 10.2 in) is wrapped in black cotton ito over a red ray-skin (samegawa) base. The diamond-pattern wrap leaves the red samegawa visible at regular intervals, creating the bold red-black contrast visible throughout the piece. The overall handle geometry follows traditional koshirae proportions.

The gold-tone tsuba is iron with a hand-carved dragon-and-cloud relief design.
