Product Details

Among the four yari in this series, the 37829 carries the most slender spearhead geometry. Where the pattern steel variant runs 0.33 inches thick at the blade, this high manganese steel head comes in at 0.16 inches - barely half the thickness, with a proportionally finer taper from the 2.08-inch base down to the point. At 11.41 inches of blade length within a 16.92-inch total spearhead assembly, the geometry is closer to the classical hon-yari profile: long, narrow, built for reach rather than weight.

High manganese steel is selected for its toughness under impact - manganese content increases work-hardening, meaning the alloy becomes harder as it's stressed rather than fracturing. For a spearhead that needs to hold its geometry across a 79.52-inch lever arm, that material property matters. The triangulated form is carried through - three faces converging to the point, with a deep fuller on the flat face to reduce mass without sacrificing the structural ridge running to the tip. The extended tang socket runs 5.51 inches beyond the blade base, securing the head deep into the staff.

The staff is iron with a black paint finish - visually distinct from the chrome or bare steel of the other yari configurations. At 79.52 inches and 2.4 lbs total, this is one of the lighter yari in the range, a combination that shifts the balance point slightly toward the hands compared to heavier builds. For wall display, the black staff reads as a unified composition with the darkened iron guard at the spearhead junction. The leather saya wraps the spearhead for storage, and the head detaches for cleaning - a practical detail mirroring how original yari were maintained in the field. Handmade by seasoned sword-smiths. Ships from the US warehouse. Note: yari stand not included.
