Product Details

The blade of this katana is forged from folded Damascus steel, producing the distinctive layered pattern that runs visibly from habaki to kissaki. At 28.74 inches, the nagasa is hardened to 58 HRC and displays the characteristic rippling texture of pattern-welded steel. The tip shows clean geometry with visible Damascus layers all the way to the edge - a mark of thorough forging throughout the entire cross-section.

The tsuka measures 10.23 inches and is built on a full tang core wrapped in white rayskin beneath black cotton ito cord. The diamond-pattern wrap is tight and even, giving the handle both visual rhythm and functional grip. The contrast between white samegawa peeking through black cord creates a classic monochrome look that pairs well with the gold-accented fittings.

At the heart of the fittings sits a real copper tsuba finished in gold and silver tones. The guard features an intricate dragon scene rendered in dimensional relief - you can see scaled body curves and flowing whiskers carved into the metal surface. The gold habaki and matching fuchi-kashira complete the warm metallic accent line from guard to pommel. Collectors drawn to this style may also appreciate the broader Gold Dragon Tsuba Katana collection.

The 30.7-inch hardwood saya is finished in glossy black piano lacquer that serves as a dramatic backdrop for the hand-painted gold dragon stretching across its length. The dragon design covers much of the saya surface with flowing mane, claws, and flame details rendered in metallic gold. A black-white braided sageo wraps the kurikata, adding texture and completing the black-and-gold color story. For more saya artwork in this theme, browse the Dragon Theme Blade Katana collection.

At 40.5 inches overall and 2.88 lbs, this katana carries authentic proportions and balanced weight. Every component - from the Damascus steel blade to the copper dragon tsuba and lacquered dragon saya - works together as a cohesive display piece built around a bold black-and-gold palette with traditional Japanese dragon iconography.

Frequently Asked Questions

What steel is used and how hard is this katana?
The blade is forged from folded Damascus steel, producing visible layered patterning along the full 28.74-inch nagasa. It is hardened to 58 HRC, which provides solid edge retention while maintaining enough flexibility to resist brittleness.
What is the dragon design on the saya made of?
The dragon artwork is rendered in metallic gold directly on a black piano lacquer surface over a hardwood saya body. The design spans much of the 30.7-inch sheath, depicting a full dragon with flowing mane, claws, and flame details against the glossy black background.
What material is the tsuba and what does it depict?
The tsuba is crafted from real copper with gold and silver tone finishing. It features a dimensional dragon scene with hand-carved scaled body, whiskers, and cloud motifs in raised relief, matching the gold dragon theme carried across the saya and fittings.

very nice quality over all, but the small details where there should be gold but it's only partially painted and looks sloppy. the weight is the best part, in which it feels great to hold and wield.
