Damascus Steel Katana with Dragon Tsuba, Black Lacquer Saya & Teal Cord Wrap

The blade on this katana is hand-forged from folded Damascus steel, producing the layered grain that runs from base to tip. A visible hamon traces the edge, the result of differential heat treatment applied during finishing. The chrome-polished surface brings out the steel's natural contrast between soft spine and hardened edge, making the layered structure clearly visible from multiple angles.

The tsuka is wrapped in deep teal ito over a foundation of genuine white samegawa, the raised ray skin nodules locking the cord in place through extended handling. The koshirae-style construction keeps the wrap tight to the wood core, and the green-and-cream diamond pattern formed by the crossing ito adds a period-accurate visual rhythm to the grip.

The black iron tsuba is the visual anchor of this piece. A dragon rendered in high relief dominates the face, with scaled body, cloud formations, and fine line work carved directly into the iron. The copper habaki sits flush below, bridging blade and guard with a warm contrast against the black iron. The saya is shaped from hardwood and finished in gloss black lacquer. Real horn koiguchi and kojiri cap each end, materials that resist wear at the two highest-contact points of the scabbard.
