How does T10 compare to 1095 for tanto specifically?

 Updated Feb 2026

At tanto scale, the differences between T10 and 1095 are subtle but meaningful. 1095 achieves slightly higher maximum hardness, which translates to the finest possible edge refinement — if absolute cutting sharpness is your priority, 1095 has a marginal advantage. T10 offers slightly better toughness (resistance to chipping) due to its tungsten content, which matters more for blades that may be handled frequently. T10 typically produces more visually active hamon lines than 1095. T10 also has marginally better corrosion resistance. For most tanto collectors, T10 represents the more practical choice: near-equivalent edge quality with better toughness, better hamon, and easier maintenance.
