Product Details

This katana features a clay tempered Damascus steel blade measuring 28.3 inches, hardened to 60 HRC. The traditional clay tempering process with water quench produces a genuine hamon line along the edge, while the layered Damascus folding creates a flowing grain pattern across the full surface of the steel. The result is a blade that pairs visual complexity with real metallurgical structure, making it a standout among Damascus Katana Sword collectibles.

The tsuka stretches 10.2 inches and is built on a hardwood core wrapped in authentic white rayskin samegawa. Over the rayskin, a dark black ito cord is tightly wound in a traditional crisscross pattern, providing both grip texture and a clean visual contrast against the pale samegawa beneath.

The tsuba is a sculptural alloy guard featuring a detailed tiger-in-bamboo relief. Two gold-toned tigers emerge from carved bamboo foliage set against a dark brown base, while a brass openwork seppa and copper spacer ring add warmth and dimension at the blade's entry point. The multi-metal tones of gold, copper, and dark bronze give this guard a layered, almost antique quality.

A black hardwood saya protects the blade with a smooth piano lacquer finish that reflects light with a mirror-like sheen. The matching black sageo cord is tied at the kurikata, keeping the presentation streamlined. The saya measures 30.3 inches and fits snugly against the habaki for a secure draw and return.

Overall this katana measures 40.5 inches in length at a total weight of 2.65 lbs. With its full tang Damascus construction, clay tempered edge, and detailed gold tiger fittings, it serves as a serious collector's piece within the Damascus Steel Sword category - built for display and appreciation of traditional Japanese sword craft.

Although not bad it has its problems being a loose scabbard and the polish on the blade wasn’t good either for a $700 katana .

Excellent product, as expected. I do wish, since they say handmade, that there was a smith's mark on the tang.
