Black Blade Katana Manganese Steel with Flame Engraving, Dragon Saya & Flower Tsuba

The blade is forged from manganese steel and finished in an all-black surface treatment, with a visible hamon line tracing the edge and hand-engraved flame motifs carved along the lower spine. The black finish absorbs light rather than reflecting it, creating a matte, dramatic profile that reads clearly even in low-light display conditions. The tsuka is constructed with a full tang running through the core, then wrapped in black-and-white braided cord over a white ray-skin underlayer. The two-tone ito pattern creates a checkered visual rhythm that contrasts sharply against the all-black blade, and the white samegawa peeks through each diamond gap in the wrap. Gold-toned menuki hardware is set beneath the cord at the traditional positions, adding a warm metal accent to the otherwise monochrome handle assembly.

The iron tsuba is cut in an openwork flower design - four rounded petal voids arranged symmetrically around the blade slot. The black iron finish matches the blade and saya, while a gold-toned seppa sits flush between tsuba and handle collar, providing the only warm metallic contrast in an otherwise strictly black-and-white composition.

The hardwood saya is coated in a high-gloss black lacquer finish. A wide white panel wraps around the upper body of the saya, printed with a detailed dragon illustration in black ink. The black-and-white sageo cord is knotted at the kurigata in a traditional style, echoing the handle wrap and unifying the koshirae as a coherent set.
