Product Details

The blade on this katana is forged from T10 high-carbon steel and subjected to differential heat treatment followed by oil quenching. The process creates a visible hamon along the length of the blade - a natural transition line between the hardened edge and the softer spine. The hand-finished surface shows subtle texture consistent with the forging process, and the chrome-bright polish makes the hamon's contour clearly legible against the steel.

The tsuka is built on a full tang core, wrapped first in black ray-skin (samegawa) for grip texture, then bound in brown cotton ito using a traditional diagonal lacing pattern. The result is a handle that sits firmly in hand with no lateral play. Brown menuki accents are seated beneath the ito at the grip's mid-points, adding both visual detail and ergonomic reference points.

The gold-tone dragon tsuba is the most visually assertive fitting on this piece. Cast with a coiled dragon in high relief against a background of churning clouds and open fretwork, it reads clearly in gold against the blade's silver tone. The fuchi and kashira share the same aged-gold finish, tying the handle fittings into a consistent metalwork palette. Browse more designs in our Dragon Theme Katana collection.

The saya is crafted from natural hardwood and left in its cream-beige finish. Along the lower third of the scabbard, a hand-painted dragon scene in gold, red, and blue is applied directly to the wood surface - the same dragon imagery echoed in the tsuba, making the koshirae read as a coherent set. A brown sageo cord is knotted at the koiguchi and drapes alongside the saya, matching the tsuka ito in both color and material weight.

Overall length is 41 inches with a shipping weight of 4 lbs. The sword is presented in a fitted box sized at 43 x 4 x 4 inches. Note: sword stand or holder is not included.

Frequently Asked Questions

What steel and heat treatment does this blade use?
The blade is made from T10 high-carbon steel, heat treated with differential quenching in oil. This produces a genuine hamon line visible along the edge, with a harder cutting edge and a tougher spine - not a cosmetic etch.
How is the dragon design applied to the saya?
The natural hardwood saya is hand-painted with a gold and red dragon scene accented by blue water elements. The same dragon motif appears on the gold-tone cast tsuba, making the saya and handle fittings a visually unified koshirae set.
What are the tsuba material and color on this katana?
The tsuba is cast metal finished in an aged gold tone, featuring a coiled dragon in high relief surrounded by cloud and fretwork detailing. The fuchi and kashira share the same gold finish, consistent with the brown ito and cream saya color palette.

Ordered about 5 weeks ago, fast shipping. Blade is polished well with good Hamon. Sageo on tsuka and saya are wrong color than ordered. Menuki mashed into place and do not line up. Saya rattles. Wish you sold blades only.

My order arrived well within the projected time frame despite it being ordered during the Lunar New Year holiday. It’s gorgeous, sturdy, and sharp. I’m very pleased and am already eyeing another purchase and have recommended this site to a friend.
