Product Details

The blade on this tanto is forged from T10 carbon steel and finished with heat treatment and oil quenching, producing the distinctive darkened surface visible across the flat. A real hamon line traces the edge, marking the boundary between the hardened edge zone and the body of the blade - a detail that rewards close inspection under direct light. The kissaki tip is cleanly finished with a bright polish contrasting the blackened ji.

The tsuka is built on a hardwood core and wrapped in black cotton cord in tightly spaced, parallel rows that run the full length of the handle. The even tension of the wrapping and the dark tone give the grip a precise, restrained look. Brass fittings at the kashira cap the handle with the same warm antique tone carried through the rest of the koshirae.

The gold-tone brass tsuba is compact and rectangular, engraved with a geometric crackle pattern that adds surface texture without overwhelming the small form factor of this Handmade Sword Tanto. Habaki and other fittings match the brass finish, tying the handle assembly together visually.

The saya is constructed from hardwood and fitted with a brass shell in an antique brushed finish. A copper ring loop is mounted at the koiguchi, providing a sageo attachment point. The brass tube saya gives this aikuchi-style tanto a distinctive profile - understated in form but rich in material contrast against the black blade and cord. Overall length is 22 inches with a shipping weight of 5 lbs. The tanto and brass saya are included; a display stand is not part of the set. This piece is suited for collectors interested in koshirae construction details and traditional tanto proportions rendered in contrasting materials.

Very pleased with the quality. I would liked to have the blade fit tighter in the sheath. Too loose.
