Product Details

The blade on this katana is forged from T10 carbon steel and finished with a hand-polished edge that reveals a genuine hamon line - the subtle wave-pattern boundary left by the heat treatment process. The chrome-finished nagasa measures 40.5 inches overall and 1.26 inches at its widest, with a spine thickness of 0.28 inches, giving it the proportions of a traditional tachi-length katana. The tsuka is constructed around a full tang core, ensuring the blade and handle move as a single rigid unit. Red ito cord is wrapped in the classic diamond-pattern over real white samegawa - the pearlescent rayskin wrap visible between each crossing provides both grip texture and visual contrast against the deep red cord.

Separating blade from handle is a dark red iron tsuba hand-engraved with a chrysanthemum and cloud scroll motif, accented with gold and silver gilding. The copper habaki and fittings carry a warm metallic tone that ties the gold detailing on the tsuba to the kashira at the handle's end.

The saya is wrapped in red rayskin and secured with a braided black-and-red sageo cord tied in a traditional knot pattern at the kurigata. Real horn fittings at the koiguchi (mouth) and kojiri (tip) protect the saya's most wear-prone points and signal the level of traditional detail carried throughout the piece. This red-and-black color pairing is a defining feature of the Red Sageo Japanese Samurai Swords category.

Total weight is 3.2 lb with overall dimensions of 40.5 x 1.26 x 0.28 inches. The package ships at 3.4 lb in a fitted 43.4 x 3.9 x 3.14-inch box. Note: a sword stand is not included.

  • Dark red iron tsuba features an intricate chrysanthemum and flowing cloud scroll relief design in gold and silver gilding - a standout accent between blade and handle.

Frequently Asked Questions

What steel and heat treatment does this blade use?
The blade is forged from T10 carbon steel and heat treated to produce a genuine hamon line along the edge - a real temper boundary, not an etched pattern. Blade dimensions are 40.5 in long, 1.26 in wide, and 0.28 in thick.
Is the rayskin on the handle and saya real?
Yes - real white samegawa (rayskin) is used beneath the red ito wrap on the tsuka, and the saya body is covered in red rayskin. Both are genuine materials, not synthetic substitutes, giving the piece its distinctive pearlescent texture.
What is the tsuba design and sageo color on this katana?
The tsuba is dark red iron with a chrysanthemum and cloud scroll motif accented in gold and silver gilding. The sageo cord is braided black-and-red, paired with real horn koiguchi and kojiri fittings on the red rayskin saya.
