Over the samegawa, black ito is applied in a classic diamond-pattern wrap, pulling tight against the underlying skin and producing the red diamond windows that show through between crossings. The result is a high-contrast black-and-red handle that photographs well and holds its wrap over time.

The tsuba is cast in copper and finished with silver gilding across an ornate scroll design. The guard face is rendered in black and white with deeply carved floral and scroll motifs - the relief work is sharp-edged and catches light differently depending on the viewing angle.
