How should a tactical wakizashi be displayed alongside a katana in a daisho arrangement?
Updated Feb 2026
A daisho display arranges the katana and wakizashi on parallel horizontal brackets with the katana on top and the wakizashi below, both oriented edge-up in the traditional Japanese display convention. The vertical spacing between the two pieces should be sufficient to allow both blades to be visually read independently while maintaining the clear association between them as a pair. Matched brackets at consistent horizontal positions create the most formal and balanced daisho display. For wall mounting, a dedicated daisho stand that holds both pieces in the correct relative positions is purpose-built for this arrangement. Matched pairs in coordinated aesthetics - same scabbard color, same fitting style, or same steel grade - create the most unified daisho display. Mixed pairs where each piece has distinct character can also display effectively with the contrast between pieces creating visual interest within the pair relationship.
