Product Details

This full tang katana features a 28.3-inch Damascus steel blade forged from folded layers of steel, producing a distinctive wavy grain pattern visible along the entire nagasa. Hardened to 60 HRC, the blade holds a refined edge and displays a chrome-tone finish that catches light across its curved surface. The layered forging process creates both visual depth and structural integrity throughout the steel.

The 10.2-inch tsuka is built over a genuine white rayskin samegawa, then tightly wrapped in black cotton cord using a traditional diamond pattern. The contrast between the bright white rayskin panels and the dark ito wrapping gives the handle its striking appearance while providing a textured, non-slip grip.

At the junction of blade and handle sits an alloy tsuba finished in black with a whirlwind motif. A gold-tone brass habaki and seppa ring frame the guard, adding a warm accent that breaks the otherwise monochrome palette. This detail is clearly visible in the close-up and ties the fittings together with understated elegance.

The 30.3-inch hardwood saya is finished in glossy black piano lacquer, producing a mirror-like surface that complements the blade's polished steel. A black sageo is knotted through a gold-accented kurikata near the saya mouth, matching the brass tones found on the tsuba assembly. The koiguchi fits snugly to keep the blade secure during display. At 40.5 inches overall and 2.65 lbs, this katana balances well in hand and presents cleanly on a wall mount or tabletop stand. The all-black color scheme - from cord to saya to sageo - is unified by gold hardware accents, making it a focused addition to any Damascus Steel Katana collection. Every component is hand-assembled, from the pinned full tang construction to the fitted saya, reflecting traditional Japanese sword-making methods applied to a modern collectible piece.

Frequently Asked Questions

What steel is used and how hard is this katana?
The blade is forged from folded Damascus steel, creating visible layered grain patterns along the 28.3-inch nagasa. It is hardened to 60 HRC, giving it strong edge retention and structural durability suited for a collectible-grade katana.
Is the rayskin on the handle genuine?
Yes, the tsuka uses genuine white rayskin as the samegawa layer beneath the black cotton ito wrap. The real rayskin provides a textured foundation that prevents the cord from shifting and adds a classic white-and-black contrast to the grip.
What is the tsuba design and what finish does the saya have?
The alloy tsuba features a whirlwind motif in a black finish, framed by a gold-tone brass accent ring. The 30.3-inch hardwood saya is coated in glossy black piano lacquer for a smooth, mirror-like surface paired with a black sageo and gold-accented kurikata.

I like it a lot. Relatively cheap, but I’m happy with how solid it is. Nothing jiggles or rattles on it. The Damascus blade is a very nice touch. Came sharp but not crazy sharp, Probably a good thing.

I name my Katana. This one I call the "Whirlwind". For some obvious reasons. Absolutely beautiful damascus steel. It is EXACTLY what I wanted. My first blue steel Katana, named the "Blue Wave" make these a pair. Two weapon sword fighting. It is lighter weight. Tried to get both to 2.65lbs. These ARE that. This sword has perfect balance, the handle is my favorite design. I plan on buying more next month. This is an expert who made this. EVERY penny is WORTH IT. I would suggest investing in this weapon. An EXCELLENT addition to my set. I have 4 Katana now from True Katana. Literally my ONLY choice I want to invest in. This is a keeper.

My first Katana, and wow. An absolute beauty of a sword. The Damascus shows up perfectly. While there are a few problem areas like scratches on the blade, handle material moves upon use, and the saya is a little loose. But these are all problems that I can live with, and fix myself if I ever needed. Overall I am very happy with this purchase, and my future purchases πŸ˜‰

Bought this a couple weeks ago and I am impressed. It will cut for sure and the price was not bad at all for the quality of the blade. The Damascus design is amazing. It was a really good buy and I would buy a sword from here again.
