Product Details

The blade on this katana is forged from T10 high-carbon steel and put through a hand-applied clay temper process, which produces a genuine hamon - the wavy crystalline temper line visible along the edge. The result is a hardened edge backed by a more flexible spine, finished to a high-polish chrome mirror surface. The hamon line is distinct and consistent, reflecting the care taken during the traditional hand-polishing stage. For collectors interested in Red T10 Carbon Steel Katana options, this piece represents a well-executed example of the form.

The handle (tsuka) is built on a hardwood core, wrapped with black same rayskin underneath, and finished with a tight black cotton ito wrap in the traditional diamond pattern. The wrap is firm and even across the full grip length, with menuki accents seated correctly beneath the ito. A pale horn kashira caps the pommel end, visible in the product images.

The tsuba is one of the most visually distinctive elements of this piece - a round gold-tone brass fitting with a hand-cast relief depicting a crane among plum blossoms. The crane motif is a recognized symbol in Japanese craft tradition, and the casting detail here is sharp, with clear separation between the bird, branches, and background negative space.

The saya is covered in genuine red rayskin (same), giving it a textured, pearlescent surface that catches light across its pebbled grain. The sageo cord is tied in a traditional knot using red-and-black braided cord, with a red tassel and polished black kurikata and koiguchi fittings at the collar. This Red Rayskin Saya Katana combination makes for a striking visual contrast against the dark handle and bright blade.

Overall length is 41 inches with a shipping weight of 6 lbs. Package dimensions are 43 x 4 x 4 inches. The sword stand or holder is not included. This katana is suited for koshirae collectors and enthusiasts of traditional Japanese sword fittings who want a full-assembly piece with a genuine hamon blade and coordinated red-and-black aesthetic.

Excellent sword, extremely sharp and well made. I have tried any high impact cutting or anything but this feels like it would do it well. Already bought a second one.
