Product Details

This black katana features a T10 steel blade shaped through clay tempering, a process that produces the distinctive hamon wave visible along the 28.34-inch cutting edge. The differential hardening brings the edge to 60 HRC while keeping the spine resilient, and the chrome-polished surface highlights the temper line with striking clarity. Every aspect of the forging process is carried out by hand, resulting in a blade with character that no machine can replicate.

The 10.62-inch tsuka is built on a hardwood core wrapped first in white ray skin (samegawa) and then tightly bound with black leather cord in a traditional diamond pattern. Gold menuki peek through the wrapping, adding subtle detail while improving the tactile grip. The full tang construction ensures the handle and blade function as one solid unit, providing confidence in balance and structural integrity.

At the guard, a silver-toned alloy tsuba features a flower-themed openwork design, framed by a brass habaki collar and matching seppa washers. The warm gold tones of the brass create a deliberate contrast against the dark handle and the cool silver of the guard - a thoughtful pairing that draws the eye to the junction between blade and hilt.

The matte black hardwood saya stretches 29.52 inches and has a lightly textured surface that gives it a worn, understated look rather than a glossy finish. Black sageo cord is tied in a traditional knot at the kurikata, with a small gold-toned fitting adding one final accent. The mouth of the saya fits snugly against the habaki for a satisfying draw and return.

At 40.15 inches overall and 2.53 lbs, this Black Katana is sized and weighted in line with traditional Japanese proportions. The sharpened edge, clay-tempered hamon, and all-black color scheme make it a compelling addition to any 1060 Katana collection or display arrangement. Stand is not included.

Frequently Asked Questions

What steel and hardness does this black katana have?
This katana uses T10 steel that has been clay tempered to achieve 60 HRC at the cutting edge. The clay tempering process creates a visible hamon line along the 28.34-inch blade while leaving the spine softer and more flexible for structural resilience.
Is this katana full tang with a sharpened edge?
Yes, the blade extends as a full tang through the entire 10.62-inch hardwood handle, secured with a meki pin. The edge comes sharpened from the forge, and the chrome-polished surface gives the blade a clean, reflective finish that highlights the hamon.
What is the tsuba design and saya finish on this katana?
The tsuba is a silver-toned alloy guard with a flower-themed openwork pattern, paired with brass habaki and seppa. The 29.52-inch hardwood saya has a matte black textured finish and is tied with black sageo cord at the kurikata with a small gold accent fitting.

At first the katana its hard to take out from the scabbard so need to trim a little bit in the inside to loosen a bit. Then the piece of wood that is holding the sageo in the scabbard fell off. But all in all the katana is sharp. Good balance of the blade and when you swing the blade it makes a hacking sound, and what I like is the hamon of the blade with a wave like pattern.

Excellent construction I even appreciate when my sword was sent to me the blade and handle were wrap in plastic. I feel as the owner I have the privilege to be the first to touch handle of the sword . It is a very important feeling to me.

For about 150 bucks, the quality of the sword is pretty good for it's price. However, it is pretty tip heavy, and the scabbard's interior was pretty dirty, with pieces of dark stuff being of my sword each time I draw it. I'm not sure if this was rushed, but just something to watch out for.

Great sword, love the weight, look and feel. The sheathe had slight paint chipping where the blade enters but besides that perfect.

The blade and fittings were great. The only thing I was not impressed with was the handle. I thought the under braiding was real Ray skin, it was not. And the braid looks like PU wrapping. Overall a good piece..

This is the first Katana I purchased through TRUEKATANA and I was not disappointed. This is an outstanding value for the price. The blade is straight, sharp enough and flawless. The sword design is simply but elegant. This one is highly recommended.

My son wanted this for Christmas and I don’t know a whole lot about katanas but after a few days of inspection it is beautifully made and the attention to detail is top notch. Just placed an order for a different katana 5min ago. Great prices and well crafted products. Would highly recommend.

I love it no rattles fairly sharp but the quality for the price is way past what I had imagined. Sure there are better higher quality swords out there but this one I'm very happy with. Thank you true swords well done!
