Product Details

This WWII Type 98 Shin Gunto officer's sword replica features a 28.74-inch full tang blade forged from 1095 carbon steel, heat treated to 58 HRC. The chrome-finished surface carries a smooth, polished luster that catches light along the gentle curvature, and the kissaki is ground to a precise point. The steel composition and hardness rating place this piece among serious Authentic Katana collectibles rather than generic display swords.

The 10.23-inch tsuka is built on a traditional core wrapped in white real rayskin for texture and grip integrity. Over the samegawa sits a tightly wound orange cord in the classic crosshatch pattern, exposing diamond-shaped rayskin nodes beneath. An antique-finish alloy kashira caps the pommel, and a brown knotted tassel hangs from the end, completing the military officer aesthetic.

The alloy tsuba stands out with its openwork floral lattice motif set against an antique brass and black background. The guard's lobed shape and raised flower accents around the rim are consistent with decorative Gunto fittings, providing both visual depth and a functional hand stop. A brass habaki seats the blade firmly at the junction.

Encasing the blade is a 30.7-inch hardwood saya finished in brown leather wrapping, a hallmark of Type 98 Gunto scabbards. Alloy fittings along the body include a ring-mounted kurikata for sling attachment and a shaped kojiri at the tip. The leather surface shows a rich, warm brown tone that pairs naturally with the orange tsuka cord and brass-toned hardware, faithful to Brown Leather Saya Japanese Samurai Swords in the WWII military tradition.

At 40.94 inches overall and weighing 4.4 lbs, this Shin Gunto replica carries the proportions and presence of the original officer swords issued during the Second World War. Every fitting - from the floral tsuba to the leather-clad saya and tasseled kashira - is assembled to honor the specific design language of Imperial Japanese military swords, making it a detailed collectible for WWII enthusiasts and Japanese sword collectors alike.

Sword is beautifully made. The shipping process was quick and I have 0 issues regarding the sword I received, however, the sword is not as sharp as I was expecting it to be, I'd just recommend getting some whetstone if that's important to you.
