Product Details

The blade on this katana is forged from pattern-welded damascus steel, producing the characteristic layered grain lines across its chrome-tone surface. The full-tang construction runs the complete length of the handle, and the hand-finished edge is shaped to a refined profile along the shinogi geometry. No hamon is specified for this piece, consistent with its pattern-steel construction and polished finish.

The tsuka is built over a full-tang core and wrapped in black cord laid tightly over a red samegawa (ray skin) base. The diamond-pattern wrap follows traditional koshirae proportions, and gold-accented menuki are set beneath the binding at the grip's mid-section. A black sageo is knotted at the kurikata of the saya, completing the handle assembly with a traditional cord attachment point.

The gold-tone chrysanthemum tsuba is the visual centerpiece of the fittings. Cast with a petal-relief surface on both faces, the circular guard echoes classic Japanese floral motifs and pairs with the gold fuchi-kashira collars at either end of the tsuka. The chrysanthemum theme has deep roots in Japanese imperial and samurai culture, making it a natural choice for a koshirae-style mounting.

The saya is crafted from hardwood and finished in deep red piano lacquer - high-gloss and smooth to the touch. A hand-carved dragon motif runs along the body of the scabbard, visible beneath the lacquer as a dimensional relief carving. The contrast between the gloss red surface and the dark carved lines gives the saya a layered depth that reads well both up close and at display distance. This piece fits naturally alongside other entries in the Red Damascus Katana category for collectors building a themed display.

At 41 inches overall and 3 lbs, this katana occupies the standard full-length range for a mounted Japanese sword. Shipping weight is 4 lbs in a 43 x 4 x 4-inch package. The sword stand is not included. For collectors interested in exploring the broader pattern-steel aesthetic, the Multi-colored Pattern Steel Katana collection offers additional options in this construction style.

Overall, pretty well done. The only thing that I think is a bit off, is that the koiguchi is little loose on arrival. but besides that I not dissapointed.
