Product Details

The blade on this katana is forged from T10 carbon steel and heat treated with an oil quench, producing a hard cutting edge alongside a more resilient spine. The result is a visible hamon line running along the blade - each one naturally unique to that individual piece - with a polished chrome finish that highlights the steel's character. The full tang extends the length of the handle, keeping the construction solid from tip to pommel. For collectors interested in this steel grade, our T10 Steel Katana collection brings together a range of options at this specification.

The tsuka is built over the full tang with a white ray-skin (samegawa) base layer, then wrapped in black ito cord in the traditional diamond-pattern (hishigami) style. The exposed samegawa diamonds contrast cleanly against the black cord - a detail visible in the close-up imagery. Fuchi and kashira are finished in matching antique gold tone, keeping the hardware consistent from handle base to pommel.

The tsuba is a round, hand-carved piece in an antique gold finish featuring raised floral relief work across the face - chrysanthemum-style botanical motifs with fine line detailing that catches light from different angles. The seppa on either side of the tsuba maintain the gold tone, tying the guard into the overall koshirae.

The saya is constructed from hardwood finished in black lacquer, giving it a smooth, even surface with a low-gloss sheen. The black sageo cord is knotted at the kurigata in a traditional tie. The combination of black lacquer saya, black ito handle, and gold tsuba creates a straightforward, high-contrast color scheme across the whole piece.

Overall length is 41 inches and the piece ships at 4 lbs in a 43 x 4 x 4 inch package. Because each sword is individually handcrafted, minor variations in hamon pattern, cord tension, and lacquer tone are inherent to hand production. Sword stand not included.

  • T10 carbon steel blade with a visible hamon line, produced through heat treatment and oil quenching for a hard edge with a resilient spine - full tang construction throughout.
  • Gold-tone round tsuba features hand-carved floral relief detailing, paired with matching fuchi and kashira in the same antique gold finish for a cohesive koshirae presentation.
  • Handle wrapped in black ito cord over white ray-skin (samegawa), forming the classic diamond-pattern weave - provides a firm, structured grip and traditional aesthetic.
  • Black hardwood lacquer saya with black sageo cord - the lacquered finish gives the scabbard a smooth, even sheen that complements the all-black handle and fittings.
  • Overall length 41 inches, shipping weight 4 lbs - each piece is individually handcrafted, so minor variations in hamon pattern and finish are natural characteristics of hand production.

Frequently Asked Questions

What steel and heat treatment does this katana use?
The blade is forged from T10 carbon steel, then heat treated and oil quenched. This process creates a hard edge with a resilient spine and produces a genuine hamon line - the visible temper pattern along the blade that varies naturally on each individual piece.
What does the gold floral tsuba look like up close?
The round tsuba is cast in an antique gold finish with raised hand-carved botanical relief - chrysanthemum-style floral motifs across the face. Fuchi and kashira match the same antique gold tone, giving the full koshirae a consistent hardware finish.
How is the handle wrapped and what is the saya made from?
The tsuka is wrapped in black ito cord over a white ray-skin (samegawa) base, forming the classic diamond pattern. The saya is hardwood finished in black lacquer with a black sageo cord - the all-black saya and handle contrast cleanly against the gold tsuba.

I LOVE the make of the sword, the balance, and the overall finish and design. The blade width (not the length or the thickness of blade!) was a little smaller than expected, but it was a small detail. The only negative comment I can have is the end of the handle, where the cap was put on. The cord started coming of, and I ended up having to secure it with ugly knots and melting the cord so it didn't come undone. If you practice with swords like I do, then you may want to get a sword that can handle more use. Perfect for display, and definitely battle ready, just not for extended practice with said sword.
