Product Details

The blade is ground from T10 carbon steel and runs full-tang through the handle core, with a hand-finished edge and a natural hamon temper line visible along the shinogi. The chrome-toned nagasa measures 29 inches and tapers to a precise kissaki, carrying the characteristic contrast between the hardened ha and the softer spine that defines properly heat-treated high-carbon steel work.

The tsuka is built over a hardwood core wrapped in black ray-skin samegawa, then bound in deep purple ito using a traditional diagonal cross pattern. Gold-tone alloy menuki sit beneath the wrap at the mid-grip position, adding visual depth without disrupting hand placement. The fuchi and kashira carry matching alloy fittings that keep the handle assembly tight and consistent.

The tsuba is among the most visually distinctive elements of this build. Cast in alloy and finished in a gold-on-black treatment, it features dense ornate scroll relief work framing a classic oval opening - a design that bridges decorative koshirae tradition with bold visual contrast against the purple ito. If you are exploring options in this aesthetic direction, the Purple Handmade Katana collection offers further comparisons worth browsing.

The saya is shaped from hardwood and finished in a multi-tone purple lacquer that shows a fine flecked texture under direct light - a more complex surface than solid-color finishes. A braided purple sageo is secured at the kurikata with a traditional knot, completing the coordinated purple-and-gold color story across the full assembly. For additional options in this saya style, the Purple Saya Japanese Samurai Swords collection is a useful reference.

Overall length is 40.5 inches with a blade width of 1.26 inches and a spine thickness of 0.28 inches. The assembled sword weighs 3.2 lb, giving it a substantial feel appropriate for koshirae-style display. The coordinated purple, gold-black, and chrome palette makes this a visually cohesive piece for collectors focused on color-matched Japanese sword presentation.

  • Blade forged from T10 carbon steel with a visible hamon temper line running the full length of the chrome-finish nagasa - 29-inch blade, full-tang construction, hand-finished edge.
  • Purple ito wrapping over black ray-skin (samegawa) provides a secure, textured grip with gold-tone alloy menuki accents nestled beneath the braid at traditional spacing.
  • Ornate gold-black alloy tsuba features richly detailed scroll relief work on a darkened ground - a standout design element that anchors the sword's deep purple color palette.
  • Hardwood saya finished in multi-tone purple lacquer with subtle flecked texture; a braided purple sageo is knotted at the kurikata in traditional style for a cohesive presentation.
  • Overall length 40.5 in, blade width 1.26 in, weight 3.2 lb - substantial proportions suited for display or koshirae-style collection presentation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What steel and heat treatment does the blade use?

How is the purple handle wrap constructed?
The tsuka is wrapped in purple ito over a black ray-skin samegawa base using a traditional diagonal braid. Gold-tone alloy menuki are set beneath the wrap at mid-grip, and matching alloy fuchi and kashira fittings secure both ends of the handle assembly.
What makes the tsuba and saya design distinctive?
The alloy tsuba is cast with dense ornate scroll relief in a gold-on-black finish - a bold contrast to the purple ito. The hardwood saya carries a multi-tone purple lacquer with a fine flecked surface texture, paired with a braided purple sageo knotted at the kurikata in traditional style.

Neither the images nor the description were misleading. Just as advertised.
My wife loves it. Passed the paper cut test, and the bamboo mat was 2 bamboo mat halves in an instant. Although, the weight is just a smidge foreward for her.
