Product Details

This shikomizue stick sword features a 28.5-inch blade forged from 1090 carbon steel and finished through a clay tempering process. The differential hardening produces a natural hamon line along the edge, with hardness reaching 60 HRC at the cutting surface. The straight blade profile and hand-finished edge reflect the iconic Zatoichi cane-sword silhouette, where every detail serves both form and function.

The tsuka measures 10.25 inches and is crafted from the same natural hardwood as the saya, creating a continuous wood-grain appearance when sheathed. This seamless design is the hallmark of the shikomizue - the blade hides entirely within what looks like a simple wooden staff. The full tang runs through the entire handle for structural integrity.

In place of a traditional tsuba, a gold-tone alloy habaki collar sits at the blade's base, providing a clean transition between steel and wood. A black cord wraps tightly around the saya mouth, adding a minimal accent that contrasts the warm, natural wood tone. These understated fittings keep the profile discreet and true to the concealed-sword concept.

The saya is constructed from solid hardwood with a matte surface finish, measuring 28.5 inches in length. The natural wood grain is visible throughout, with subtle tonal variation that gives each piece a unique character. When fully sheathed, the sword resembles an unassuming walking stick - a faithful nod to the Zatoichi film tradition. For collectors drawn to Straight Blade Sword designs, this shikomizue offers a distinctive alternative to curved katana profiles.

At 40.5 inches overall and 2.09 lbs, this shikomizue balances portability with presence. The straight-blade geometry and natural wood aesthetic make it a standout addition to any Japanese sword collection, whether displayed on a wall mount or alongside other collectible replicas.

Frequently Asked Questions

What steel and heat treatment does this shikomizue use?

What are the fittings and accent details on this sword?
A gold-tone alloy habaki collar sits at the blade base, and a black cord wraps the saya mouth for a minimal accent. There is no traditional tsuba - the clean transition from steel to wood keeps the concealed-sword profile intact.

Awesome sword, it came very sharp too! I'm not that familiar with Manganese steel but from what I've read it's quite strong. I'll be making another purchase for sure!. Great Experience with True Katana.

Maybe my expectations were a little high because I thought that there was inventory in the California factory but I had to wait some time for them to be shipped from China which took a while. After review I noticed a notch on the blade of the Shikomizue Sword and some small defects in design. Overall an Ok product.
