Product Details

The blade on this katana is ground from 1095 high-carbon steel and brought to a high-polish mirror finish that catches light cleanly along its length. A hamon temper line runs the edge, giving the steel a two-tone visual signature familiar to collectors of traditional Japanese swordcraft. At 40.5 inches overall with a 1.26-inch width and 3.2 lb weight, the proportions sit squarely in full-size katana territory. Browse our 1095 High Carbon Katana collection to compare similar blades.

The tsuka is wrapped in black cotton cord over a PU white samegawa base, forming the diamond-pattern zig-zag typical of authentic Japanese handle construction. Copper fittings - fuchi and kashira - frame the wrap at both ends, picking up the warm gold tone carried through the rest of the koshirae. The full tang extends through the entire handle, secured beneath the wrap for solid one-piece rigidity.

The tsuba is cast copper in a gold-and-black finish, with an ornate scroll relief design and detailed figural elements visible across its face. The rounded form and raised surface work place it within the classical koshirae aesthetic rather than a purely decorative shortcut - it reads as a considered metalwork piece that anchors the transition between blade and handle.

The saya is the visual centerpiece of this build. Hardwood core construction is finished in premium natural lacquer that settles into a deep gloss black, then overlaid with a gold-on-black dragon embossment running the full body of the scabbard. The dragon motif - coiling through floral and cloud scroll elements - is executed with consistent relief depth. Gold band accents ring the saya near the koiguchi, and a black-and-white sageo cord ties at the kurigata, providing a clean contrast detail against the lacquer body.

As a Handmade Samurai Sword, this piece combines hand-finished steel, a structured koshirae, and a dragon-themed lacquer saya into a single cohesive collectible. The black, gold, and white palette holds together across every component - from the sageo to the tsuba to the saya banding - making it a strong display choice for collectors who want a complete, visually unified katana.

This is the third sword I’ve ordered from true katana. Unfortunately this time I’ve received a chipped blade. Yes, It is small but takes away from the beauty of the katana. Everything else about the sword is beautifully crafted and I wouldn’t expect anything less from this company.
