Product Details

The blade of this black katana is forged from T10 carbon steel and subjected to a clay tempering process that creates a genuine hamon along the edge line. With a hardness of 60 HRC, the 28.3-inch nagasa holds its refined edge while the softer spine absorbs shock. The chrome-polished steel surface contrasts beautifully against the dark fittings, and the kissaki tip is ground to a clean, precise geometry visible in every angle. This is a standout piece among Clay Tempered Samurai Swords for collectors who value authentic heat treatment.

The 10.2-inch tsuka is built on a hardwood core covered in real white samegawa - genuine ray skin that adds both grip texture and traditional authenticity. Over the samegawa, black cotton cord is tightly wrapped in a diamond pattern, secured at each menuki point. The contrast between the white ray skin peeking through the black wrapping gives the handle a classic katana appearance.

A round alloy tsuba in black sits between the handle and blade, simple in profile but effective in proportion. Just above the tsuba, the habaki collar displays a warm copper tone with subtle ridged detailing that catches light and provides a visual bridge between the dark fittings and the bright steel.

The 30.3-inch hardwood saya is finished in a deep piano lacquer that produces a mirror-like black surface. Near the koiguchi (scabbard mouth), a section of pearl rayskin wrapping adds a textured accent that breaks up the gloss. The black sageo cord is neatly tied around the kurikata, and real horn fittings at the koiguchi reinforce the opening for repeated draw and sheathe.

At 40.5 inches overall and 2.65 lbs, this full tang T10 Katana Sword balances well in hand. Every component - from the clay tempered blade to the lacquered saya - follows a cohesive all-black theme accented only by the copper habaki and white samegawa. It is designed for the collector who appreciates understated Japanese aesthetics backed by genuine steel craftsmanship.

Frequently Asked Questions

What steel and heat treatment does this black katana use?
This katana is forged from T10 carbon steel and clay tempered to produce a genuine hamon line along the edge. The clay tempering process creates a hardened edge at 60 HRC while keeping the spine softer and more flexible for shock absorption.
Is this katana full tang construction?
Yes, the blade extends as a single piece of T10 steel through the entire 10.2-inch handle, secured with traditional mekugi pins. The full tang design provides structural strength and balanced weight distribution across the 40.5-inch overall length.
What materials are used for the saya and tsuba?
The 30.3-inch saya is crafted from hardwood finished in black piano lacquer with a pearl rayskin accent near the koiguchi and real horn fittings. The tsuba is a round alloy guard in black, paired with a copper-toned habaki collar and black sageo cord.
