Product Details

This katana features a 28.34-inch blade forged from T10 high-carbon steel, clay-tempered to achieve a hardness of 60 HRC. The differential hardening process produces a genuine hamon line that traces the length of the blade - visible in the transition between the hardened edge and the softer spine. The blade arrives sharpened and carries a chrome-toned finish that highlights the natural grain of the steel.

The tsuka measures 10.62 inches and is built on a full tang core wrapped in black samegawa for texture and grip stability. Over the ray skin, vibrant red silk ito cord is tightly wound in a traditional diamond pattern, secured with gold-tone menuki fittings nestled beneath the wrapping. The result is a handle that feels as deliberate as it looks.

At the junction of blade and handle sits an alloy tsuba with a dark openwork floral design. The intricate cutouts depict leaves and blossoms, framed by a scalloped edge. A gold-tone habaki collar and matching seppa washers complete the transition, adding a warm metallic accent against the otherwise dark palette of this Black Samurai Sword.

The 29.52-inch hardwood saya is finished in deep black piano lacquer that produces a mirror-like gloss. Hand-painted silver vine and leaf motifs cascade along the upper portion of the scabbard, lending an artistic quality that sets this piece apart. Red and black braided sageo cord is tied at the kurikata, echoing the color scheme of the handle and adding a finishing accent.

With an overall length of 40.15 inches and a weight of 2.53 lbs, this katana is proportioned for an authentic feel on a stand or wall mount. Every element - from the clay-tempered T10 blade to the lacquered floral saya - is crafted to function as a cohesive display piece. A strong choice among Sharp Katana collectors who value both material quality and visual detail.

  • Forged from T10 high-carbon steel with clay-tempered hardening to 60 HRC, producing a visible hamon line along the 28.34-inch blade for both beauty and edge resilience.
  • Full tang construction with red silk ito cord tightly wrapped over black samegawa, providing a secure and traditional grip across the 10.62-inch tsuka.
  • Alloy tsuba finished in dark tone features an openwork floral motif, accented by a gold-tone habaki collar that contrasts the black fittings.
  • Black hardwood saya finished in glossy piano lacquer with hand-painted vine and leaf artwork, paired with red and black sageo cord tied at the kurikata.
  • Overall length of 40.15 inches with a sword weight of 2.53 lbs, balanced for display presence and designed as a refined collectible piece.
  • Ships with a cloth sword bag for storage and protection - the blade arrives sharpened and ready to display.

The only reason I have rated the sword as a four is because the scabbard was damaged during shipping. The rest of the sword is a beautiful piece of workmanship. We will be ordering more Katanas through Truekatana in the future. Hopefully they will arrive undamaged next time.

I'm giving a 4 star because the craftsmanship of the sword is remarkable and although I didn't receive the sword that I ordered, I know my son will love this one. I was impressed how sharp the blade was. I'm hoping to order again as TrueKatana has excellent and speedy customer response service when I told them my problem.

It was delivered relatively fast and discreetly. Normally my dogs bark at strangers but they were dead silent when it was delivered. The sword itself was and is in great condition. Full tang, legitimate manganese steel with a distinct hardness in the blade, some wiggle but noticeably less than other swords. Though it's not razor sharp, it's still sharp enough to actually cut things. A thing that might concern some folk is the hamon line. I won't pretend like I know everything. I am very inexperienced when it comes to assessing a katana, all of that is to say I cannot accurately discern whether the hamon is superficial or genuine.
