Frequently Asked Questions

How sharp are these katanas?
Our sharp katanas are hand-honed to a refined cutting edge using traditional sharpening techniques with progressive grits. The exact edge geometry varies by model and steel type, but all sharp katanas in this collection have been individually finished to achieve a clean, consistent cutting edge.
Is a sharp katana safe to display at home?
Yes, with proper precautions. Always store the blade inside its saya scabbard when not being examined. Display on a secure stand out of reach of children. Handle the blade with care, gripping only the handle and avoiding contact with the edge. Treat every blade with the same respect you would give any sharp tool.
How do I maintain the sharpness over time?
Keep the edge oiled to prevent micro-corrosion that dulls the surface. Avoid touching the edge with bare fingers. If the edge needs refreshing after extended display, use fine Japanese water stones following the existing blade angle. For most display-only collectors, the original edge will maintain its character for years with proper oiling.
Does the steel type affect sharpness?
Yes. Higher carbon steels like 1095 and T10 achieve a finer edge grain than lower carbon options. Damascus steel offers good edge characteristics with the added visual interest of the grain pattern. All steel types in our catalog accept a quality hand-sharpened edge, but the peak sharpness potential varies with carbon content.

First I will start by saying this is a fine piece of art work. The sword itself is beautiful. The sheathing seems to have the issue. r

Where the Sageo goes through the bump out on the sheathing, the gold piece has dislodged. Not that big of a deal but a little disheartening. Otherwise, great price and very quick shipping. Thank you. I will be adding a broad sword to my collection in the near future.
