T10 Carbon Steel Katana with Dragon-Carved Dark Red Saya and Red Ito Handle

The blade on this katana is forged from T10 carbon steel and hand-finished to a chrome polish that lets the hamon line read clearly against the steel surface. The temper line runs the length of the edge in a natural, irregular pattern - a direct result of the differential heat treatment applied during the forging process. Full-tang construction keeps the blade anchored through the entire handle assembly, giving the piece solid balance at 3 lbs across its 41-inch overall length.

The tsuka is wrapped in red ito cord over black samegawa ray skin, a pairing that holds its grip texture well and presents a strong visual contrast. Gold-toned menuki are seated beneath the ito at two points along the handle, visible through the cord gaps and echoing the warm accent tones carried through the rest of the fittings.

The black iron tsuba is the most detailed component in the koshirae - an openwork dragon design with pierced and relief-carved sections that let light pass through the guard. The black finish sits cleanly against the transition from red ito to the dark fittings at the habaki, and the dragon motif connects visually to the saya engraving below.

The dark red hardwood saya is lacquered and carries an engraved dragon design running most of its length, rendered in a two-tone treatment where the carved recesses show a deeper red-black beneath the surface lacquer. A black sageo cord is tied at the kurikata in a traditional knotted arrangement.
