Best Katana

The best katana isn't a single answer — it depends on what you actually need it for. But the baseline is the same regardless: real steel, proper heat treatment, a hamon that's there because the blade was tempered right, and construction that holds together under actual use rather than just in photos. Every samurai sword in this collection clears that bar. From there, the best katana is the one that fits your purpose — practice, display, collecting, or a specific aesthetic. Another beautiful sword! The reason I chose the Phoenix theme is because in the middle of May 2040CE The Mandate of Heaven will occur. This is caused by the Phoenix weapon. The 6th seal of Revelation, the sun will darken, worldwide volcanism & earthquakes, oceans slip basins, red rain red mud will fall from the sky. And the return of the Vapor Canopy. Cheers!

I like knives and I have different types of knives and hand sharpener, electric sharpener (Tormek). I keep my knives always sharp. First time owner of a Katana. First impression is good. The steel is original Damascus. The hamon looks good. r

Things I did not like much:r
1. It was written that it is razor sharp. No, definitely not razor sharp, even noth sharp. It doesn't cut folded paper towel even though I press much. With fingers, I don't feel the sharpened. After sharpening my knives, I test them and I am what is sharp and what is notr
2. Polish is not good enough. In some points of blade, with my nail, I can easily feel the Damascus layers.r
3. Habaki: design is good, but workmanship looks poor, machine made.r
4. Saya: The thing that really bothered me was the saya. When you shake the blade, it makes wabbling noise. The blade does not perfectly fit to Saya. r

I think for this price, it was good enough.

Placed the order on July 14th and received the sword today. Apparently when TrueKatana says "in stock" that means in stock in China.....still, the tracking was not bad at all, I could log on and get info anytime, right up until delivery. I admit I was apprehensive about paying this much for a Katana, but I have to say that it has exceeded my expectations and I am very happy with this purchase. r
The fit and finish is absolutely perfect, I cannot find a flaw in this blade, handle or scabbard. It even came with a neat silk lined case that I wasn't expecting. The Hamon is perfect, the blade has a beautiful taper and it is true to all the features of a WWII type 98 Shin Gunto. Anyone worried about the quality matching the price should buy with confidence, you will not be disappointed with this Katana!!!!!!

Very nice looking sword with good balance and weight. However, the blade was not evenly sharpened as I requested. Moreover, the blade is not razor sharp like I wanted it to be. Therefore, I would not describe it as "Battle Ready" as advertised. r
r
The upper half of the blade is sharp enough to remove some hairs on my arm, but does not shave the skin. The lower half of the blade is not sharp enough to remove any hairs on my arm. Will have to buy some fine ceramic wet stones to finish the sharpening myself, because I want the blade to razor sharp across the full length of the blade. Swords can't be shipped back to China to correct the poor full blade sharpening.

Chrysanthemum Tsuba Tamahagane Steel Katana, Handcrafted, Black Saya & Brown Tsuka Chrysanthemum Tsuba Tamahagane Steel Katana, Handcrafted, Black Saya & Brown Tsuka Verified Purchase

I purchased 5 katana from 5 separate stores. This one had higher quality and tracking than all the others. The balance was good. The sword stays appropriately in the saya/sheath when turned upside down, and there is no rattle in the saya when you gently shake it.

The sword was able to handle tameshigiri on tatami goza without incident for a 1/4 sized, 1/2 sized, and full-sized roll. Other katana started to chip at the blade, had pulls in the tatami on their cuts, or simply couldn't properly slice.

The only downside is all others came with a bag, and this one did not, but as it is the one that will continue to be used, it is not much of a downside.

Damascus Steel Katana with Real Hamon in Black Lacquer Saya - Brown Ito, Chrysanthemum Tsuba Damascus Steel Katana with Real Hamon in Black Lacquer Saya - Brown Ito, Chrysanthemum Tsuba Verified Purchase

About 2 years ago I purchased my first katana ever from this site and I couldn’t have been more excited. I had settled upon a shirasaya katana with a nice plain wood look for around $250-$300 US. It was a nice katana made from T10 Carbon steel, but it obviously was going to have its imperfections for the price. It served me well and was a great beginner katana. This time however, I wanted something a bit higher quality and with full fittings. When you look at the two blades, it is a night and day difference. Don’t get me wrong they are both magnificent looking blades, but there are basically no faults with the new blade. The hamon itself is absolutely hypnotic and of hard not to just stare at. Not only that but the sword came in a box with a protective bag that you can keep as well. The amount of craftsmanship that went into this blade compared to the other is clear. The best part was they gave me a coupon for 25% off. I could not resist buying this and I hope this blade lasts generations beyond me so I will be taking great care of it. Well worth the paying more and they gave shipping info and updates the whole way here.
